The new world champions – India is now again in news for the raining of prizes from all around. After winning the world cup, they won a cash prize of Rs 14 crore 48 lakhs.

As soon as the match was over, BCCI announced an additional cash reward. Rs 1 crore for each member of team India, Rs 50 lakh for coach Gary Kirsten and support staff each and Rs 25 Lakh each for selectors.

Yes, the dream of billions have come true and India has won the 2011 Cricket World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. India had to score 275 to win and they were resting on Sehwag and Tendulkar but Sehwag got out on a duck and Indians were dejected to see Sachin’s dismissal. But Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni then kept the nerves and were involved in a 100+ partnership. Gambhit got out after scoring a brilliant 97 and then Yuvraj and Dhoni took team India to victory. Dhoni played a captains knock and scored unbeaten 91 runs.

The match truly lived upto its expectations of final as the balance kept on shifting from India to Sri Lanka and then finally India were able to win it with 6 wickets. During the match spectators were glued to the seats as the match was poised for a thrilling finish.

As soon as the winning runs were scored, entire India erupted with joy and happiness. Sound of crackers were heard from east to west and north to south. People were seen shouting on roads and distributing sweets.

India, where cricket is religion has now more reasons to celebrate. It was in 1983 when Kapil Dev won the World Cup for India and there after it has been a dream for India. They were near to accomplish this dream in 2003 but were defeated in the last match. But today i.e. April 2, 2011 the dream has finally been fulfilled under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. The Indians bowling started on a splendid note as Sri Lankan openers were not able to score runs easily.The run rate was kept in check by the Indians with superb fielding. But the man who spoiled India’s party was M Jayawardene. He scored a brilliant 103 off just 88 balls and utilized the last power play to strengthen Lanka’s position.

Sri Lanka put up a total of 274/6 in 50 overs and now Indian batsmen really need to play well to win this match and World Cup 2011.

The stage is all set for the grand finale of Cricket World Cup 2011 when India will take on Sri Lanka in Mumbai on 2nd April 2011. Indians are still not over with the emphatic win over Pakistan in semi finals will be hoping that MS Dhoni and his team play the natural game and bring back the Cup after a gap of 18 years. Sri Lanka on the other hand have won World Cup in 1996 and will be hoping to repeat it again.

Injuries to some key players of Sri Lanka has raised some doubt over the playing 11 as Murlitharan, the key bowler is facing hamstring problem. Sri Lanka has recalled Vaas and Randhiv for the final but Murli’s exclusion due to injury will be a huge setback for them. On the other hand India’s Nehra is also suffering from a broken finger and is ruled out of the Final’s.

No matter what the final eleven be, both teams are committed to give 100% as this is a golden opportunity for them. Sachin Tendulkar is playing at home and he will wish to end on a winning note. The odds are in India’s favor and many cricket legends also feel that India has a better chance of winning. But remember Cricket is a game of Uncertainty and Sri Lanka has proved its talent so this would be a superb match to watch out for.
